Former Parish Member to Give Lenten Retreat
St. John’s Parish Retreat: “Lent, A Time to Turn to the Lord: at St. John the Baptist Church on March 21 and 22 at 7 pm with Fr. Richard M. Poblocki as presenter.
The Kindergarten students at St. John the Baptist School in Alden looked at “Numbers in Color” – a painting by artist Jasper Johns. The original painting can be seen at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo. The painting shows numbers in a grid. The students used oil pastel to color their initials with warm colors, and the background with cool colors. Oil pastels make nice intense colors and can be blended like oil paints. The students intentionally made the colors a little messy, like Jasper Johns did in his painting. The initials were then displayed all together to create one large painting.
